that’s the real heart of the ocean!

A few things I’ve worked on

I’ve been extremely fortunate to work on massive properties, with global brands and people I admire. I’ll show you some of my current work as well as my favorite campaign and some past work.

Avatar - audience assessment

In 2020 I was brought on Avatar to reawaken and reinvigorate the fandom. My first step is always a deep dive into the community, what they like, where they are, and how they talk to each other. I decided to reach out to community leaders to centralize the fandom as much as possible to optimize messaging. I also identified the prominent fan types and what they were most interested in:

Avatar - data driven content

Using data-driven strategy I’ve created several campaigns that speak to each fan type and the broad audience. Here is an example of what a Cinephile would gravitate towards as well as a casual viewer:

I also collaborate with brand partners and designers to create bespoke content and relevant hashtags across all platforms to connect with the audience and drive messaging.

Avatar growth

Over the last 4 years Avatar has seen incredible growth, much of it happening pre-sequel release.

My favorite campaign

I’ve built The Wheel of Time’s social channels from the ground up, creating a vibrant community and the most engaged fandom of any of Amazon’s properties to this day.

I started by looking into the existing book fandom, their behaviors, where and how they’re talking, and then determined how best to communicate with them.

The Puzzle of time

Early on I found that The Wheel of Time fandom was very connected and LOVED puzzles, that inspired me to create a fan activation that fed into their interests while also premiering a new poster in a fun and exciting way, capturing the interest of fans and broad audience alike.

The Puzzle of Time.

The puzzle of time

The first step was to identify and vet 150 active members of the community. The goal was to engage a mix of people: cast, fans, influencers and journalists. Once the list was made I created a run of show and wrote a message playing on an in-world prophecy.

I then led a team to direct message a single puzzle piece to those chosen across platforms encouraging them to connect with other fans and complete the puzzle revealing the image using the #puzzleoftime hashtag.

The puzzle of time

The team and I spent all day monitoring the progress and it was a hit! After tallying up the numbers on our tweets throughout the day we ended with 1.4M organic impressions and over 70K organic engagements.

And the fans loved it...

past work

Though most of my recent work has been in the entertainment industry, I also have 6 years of experience in B2C, influencer, and celebrity marketing in the beauty industry as well as content capture and marketing budget management with Joico Hair Care.

Fun fact: I’m also a licensed cosmetologist!

my process

As I’ve stated before, I like to learn as much about the audience as possible as soon as possible. This usually takes the form of some kind of map or word cloud to identify their behaviors. This works with any industry, not just entertainment.

Here is an example from the Avatar fandom:

scheduling

Once I understand where they are and the best way to reach them I start ideating campaigns and creating content. The goal is always to appeal to as many people as possible.

I’ve worked with many different scheduling software, from Airtable to Sprinklr, but I always like to have a back up schedule on Google Sheets, just in case!

reporting

I’ll generate weekly and/or monthly reports detailing the best performing content per platform, follower numbers, community growth and community highlights as well as emerging trends.
